The race to net zero is on! Are you looking for out-of-the-box solutions that support your emission reduction and circularity targets? GLOBE Series would like to invite you to take part in a custom challenge-pitch process (no-cost involved) hosted by the Low Carbon and Circular Economy Business Action (LCBA) Canada initiative. The initiative is funded by the European Union.

A number of leading Canadian companies are already participating, you can view their challenges here. Submit your proposed challenge by either September 15th or September 30th for consideration. See below for more details on application deadlines.

When you submit your challenge application, you'll have the choice of participating at one of two signature Destination Net Zero Events. Culminating in GLOBE Forum 2022, the largest and longest-running sustainability conference in North America, these events will gather Canada’s top net-zero leaders: innovators, executives, policymakers, investors, youth, global NGOs, and more.

Feb. 17, 2022 LCBA Canada Challenge Pitch Side Event at Destination Net Zero: GLOBE Forum 2022

Applications due Sept. 30, 2021

This final LCBA Canada transactional event will take place over several days during GLOBE Forum 2022 and will run as a series of individual pitch sessions. Each 60-minute session will feature pitch presentations from European SMEs, centred around a wide range of low-carbon and circular economy technology challenges. Pitch topics will be pre-determined based on the technology challenges brought forward by Canadian buyers. Following the pitch session, buyers will have the opportunity to meet the SMEs in a one-on-one setting for further discussion about proposed solutions.

Why participate?

Defining pathways to achieve your emission-reduction and circular-economy targets – as well as researching, identifying and connecting with cleantech suppliers – can be time- and resource-intensive. This project offers a unique opportunity for Canadian organizations to leverage the expertise of some of Europe’s most well-known sustainability and cleantech experts – at no cost. As part of the free package, you will receive:
  • Complimentary innovation challenge definition and promotion: We would work with you to understand your pain points and solution needs and distill them into a specific innovation challenge statement. We would then promote the challenge to proven European solution providers. Pitches take place in the context of prominent industry events designed to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon and circular economy, including the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF2021), Destination Net Zero: Nature and Bioeconomy Days and Destination Net Zero: GLOBE Forum 2022.
  • Complimentary identification of European SMEs & technologies relevant to your interests: Following your review and selection, we would arrange for up to four companies to present on and answer questions about their solutions.
  • Complimentary brand visibility: Your challenge will be promoted on the lcbacanada.com website and through the European Union network partners, offering strong complimentary brand visibility.
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by participating.

Time commitment

Between committing to the project and Challenge Pitches, we will need a time commitment of between a ½ day to 3 business days to:
  • Support the definition of the innovation challenge statement
  • Review the applications received (usually up to 10) and select the top solution providers of interest (up to 4)
  • Participate in a 1-hour public pitch event in September
  • Meet one-on-one with EU SMEs of interest
  • Provide an update to the LCBA project team on potential next steps

The EU LCBA project is designed to enable commercial transactions with positive environmental and economic benefits.

Eligible challenge topics are broad and can cover a wide variety of areas. The EU specializes in innovation in many low-carbon and circular- economy technologies, including methane capture and utilization, low-grade waste heat recovery, utility-scale energy storage, hydrogen production, emission monitoring, water treatment, end-of-life recycling, transport vehicle electrification, and alternative materials.
